Alpha Beta's Favorite Service Projects

Salsa Night/Swing Night
Each semester the brothers of Alpha Beta host a dance night to fundraise with the Butler University Jazz Ensemble. In the Fall, Alpha Beta hosts Salsa Night, and in the Spring, Alpha Beta hosts Swing Night. The night begins with dance lessons, so don’t worry if you’re not sure how to Salsa or Swing dance. Then the Butler Jazz Ensemble plays Salsa and Swing tunes for attendees to dance the night away. Brothers provide snacks and decorations to make the night even more memorable. All proceeds from the event go directly to the Butler University Jazz Ensemble.
Bob the Builder: Chairs and Stands Edition
In September 2019, Alpha Beta spent a Saturday cleaning, fixing, repainting all of the Ensemble chairs in Stands in Lilly Hall. Brothers helped to tighten stands so no one would experience the sinking or wobbly stand during rehearsal. Brothers also helped to spray paint a Butler stencil and label the room the stands belong in so to make sure each ensemble room, classroom, and practice room has chairs and stands.

Recruiting for Symphonic Band
The brothers of Alpha Beta helped to recruit new members to the newest ensemble on Campus – Symphonic Band. Brothers created and hung up flyers throughout campus as well as creating table tents for Butler’s dining hall. In addition to the flyers and table tents, the brothers actively recruited people at tables in busy campus areas. Brothers focused especially on recruiting people outside of the Jordan College of Arts.

Concert Receptions
After each Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra concert, Kappa Kappa Psi – Alpha Beta and Tau Beta Sigma – Epsilon provide snacks for the performers. Brothers and Sisters understand that performers have busy lives, so we want to make sure performers have a small moment to celebrate their concert triumph before running off to their next activity.
Post Game Help
After home football games, Brothers and Sisters come together to help move the equipment from the field down to the U-Haul and load the truck. This is alongside and other post-game help that the marching band needs to put equipment back where it belongs. The brothers and sisters wanted to take that responsibility off the marching band especially since the marching band just played through the football game.
